A seizing baby. A woman with “rocks in her head.” An older gentleman who collapsed of stomach pain after the last guest left his party. Dale Long, DO, emergency physician at St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia, IL, shared these stories at the 2015 SSM Health Leadership Conference to inspire his colleagues to achieve excellence in emergency medicine. “As health care professionals, our mission is to serve others, and we should strive to do exactly that with excellence as our goal,” said Dr. Long. “Bringing comfort to the patients and families I serve is a privilege. It’s gratifying to make a difference for our patients and to help them go home happy and healthy. That’s what keeps me inspired to come back to the ER day after day.”
More than 550 high-performing system, regional and market employees were selected to attend this year’s conference, which was held June 3 and 4 in St. Louis. Dr. Long was one of nine employee and physician keynote speakers who shared inspirational stories.
